Sayako Nakagawa’s musical journey begun in Japan when she was in her mother’s womb listening to her play piano. She grew up learning piano and graduated from the Osaka College of Music in Japan. Her soulful, smooth and yet funky sound has led her to perform piano and keyboard across many different music styles including soul, R’nB, funk and acid jazz bands. Since moving to Melbourne, her love of playing various styles has led her to work with local and international artists including; Joys Soul, Yasukazu Kano and Tayutau. Sayako has also collaborated with Japanese duo, Fuefukurou. One of her more interesting performances has been a ‘Piece of Artwork’ by Australian artist, Sarah Jane Norman where she was ‘sounding out’ Sarah’s artwork with her piano. Sayako joined Alárìíyá in 2014 and has been performing with them ever since.
